Me and Cosplay

Let's start from the beggining of the beggining shall we?

I've been into Anime since I was a little kid. As a matter of fact, most of the things I watched on the TV were Anime and most of the games I played were of Sonic The Hedgehog.

I remember asking my mom to dress up as Disney characters for Carnival, as well as characters from fairytales or even Anime. When I was 6 years old, I decided to dress up as Pikachu from Pokémon. I guess that was my first real cosplay

As I grew up, I've put Anime (and cartoons in general) aside and found other interests like Photography and History. But, after falling into deep depression in 2007 I had the need to hold onto something. Music was my support for a couple years, but I needed more.

That's when I found out about Naruto. I started watching and I completely fell in love with the story and message. It was so... me, I identified myself so easily. After Naruto came other animes like Death Note and many, many video games. That's how I gained the passion I have today for this culture.

Also in 2007, I heard about Cosplay for the first time. I wanted to dress up as Shadow The Hedgehog for a party, but I had no idea how to make the costume. So, I searched around the web and saw many pictures of cosplayers. That's how I learned about cosplay.

However, I only got into it in 2010, thanks to my amazing friend Jo who convinced me to go to a convention. I wore my first REAL cosplay at my 2nd con. It was my OC Gothica.

Then it happened. I fell in love with Cosplay and... it changed my life. I can positively say that cosplay has been the second most life-changing experience I've ever had.

I'm not the best cosplayer in the world. As a matter of fact I'm not even an "amazing-oh my god" cosplayer. But I feel like I'm progressing with each costume I do. I want to be better and one day I may become one of those cosplayers.

As for characters... I have so many I want to do. My list keeps getting bigger and bigger!

Many people ask me what Cosplay is to me. So here's an answer:

Cosplay is impersonating a character. Is being all this amazing characters that you love and sometimes even create. Methaphoricaly, cosplay is like life: you make someone, something live. To me is not only an hobby, but a burning passion. It's an art form and somehow a life style.

Cosplay is forgetting everything and being that someone you always wished to be.
